| After The Bell, by Edward Lee |
Trafalgar Studio 2 Whitehall London SW1A 2DY |
On Wednesday 16th June, TheatreMAD presents a rehearsed reading of Edward Lee’s new comedy, After The Bell, at Trafalgar Studio 2.
After the Bell is a darkly funny comedy that takes place in the Surrey home of recently deceased theatrical agent and angel, Sam Bloom.
The play begins as his widow, beautiful actress Avril Lancaster, and his family and close friends arrive to fulfil Sam’s last wish – the reading of his will.
As the will is read Sam’s life is laid bare and as revelation follows revelation and surprise eclipses surprise, relationships disintegrate, marriages fall apart and everyone finally gets what they deserve. No angel after all then, was Sam. But who is the quiet stranger?
The play will be read by a stellar cast including Nicky Henson (Syriana, Vera Drake, Shine On Harvey Moon), Caroline Langrishe (Casualty, Judge John Deed) and Jemma Walker (EastEnders, Family Affairs, Market Boy).
Tickets to the reading are free, with donations welcome to TheatreMAD. |

RAINDOGS (7.45pm and 11.00pm)
Written and directed by Andrew MacBean
RAINDOGS is a new musical based on Balm in Gilead, Lanford Wilson's first full length play. He was a new arrival to the early '60s counter-culture scene in downtown Manhattan, and decided to write what he saw. Living above (and spending many nights in) an all-night coffee shop under his hotel, at 76th and Broadway, he wrote down the actual words, lives and conversations of the drug addicts, hookers, pimps, and hustlers who inhabited the cafe nightly. This became the basis of an astonishing ground-breaking piece of theatre.
