Gift In Will

One of the ways you can really help to make a difference in the future and leave a true lasting legacy is to leave a gift in your Will to The Make A Difference Trust. Gifts left to us by generous supporters in their Wills (also known as legacies) help us to make long term differences and expand our work such us increasing the number of people our hardship fund can help out of poverty or the number of children in southern Africa that are orphaned through AIDS and need an education, a home and a future.

Including a gift to The Make A Difference Trust in your Will today will help us develop and secure our services long into the future. Remember, your Will enables you to direct your money exactly where you wish it to go. Without a Will, you have no say in how your estate is divided up and you may find that family, friends or a cause you believe in do not benefit as you would wish.

When you are making your Will, your first concern will naturally be for your own family and friends. However, once you have ensured you have properly provided for them, you may also wish to consider using your Will to help support our work.

How Can You Do This?

There are a number of ways you could include a gift to The Make A Difference Trust in your Will. Below are the most common types of gifts and suggested wording for including in your Will:

A residuary gift

After providing for friends and family, some of our supporters decide to leave the remainder of their estate, or a percentage of the remainder, to The Make A Difference Trust. This is a very popular way to leave a gift to charity as the gift (or legacy) increases in line with inflation. Most importantly however this means that you only gift to The Make A Difference Trust some or all of what is left after you have provided for your family and friends.

Typical wording for this might be:

“I give (enter the word ‘all’ or ‘a_______% share of’) the residue of my estate to The Make A Difference Trust (registered charity number 1124014) of 28 Denmark Street, London, WC2H 8NJ. I also direct that the receipt of the Charity Director or, duly authorised officer within The Make A Difference Trust, shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said legacy.”

A cash gift

This is a fixed amount of money. It is important to remember that cash gifts decrease in value over time and therefore may need to be reviewed periodically.

Typical wording for this might be:

“I give the sum of £__________ (enter the amount to be given) to The Make A Difference Trust (registered charity number 1124014) of 28 Denmark Street, London, WC2H 8NJ. I also direct that the receipt of the Charity Director or, duly authorised officer within The Make A Difference Trust, shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said legacy.”

A gift in kind

A gift in kind is an item you decide to leave to The Make A Difference Trust and could be property, shares, furniture, jewellery, furniture etc.

Typical wording for this might be:

“I give (provide the details of the item/s here) to The Make A Difference Trust (registered charity number 1124014) of 28 Denmark Street, London, WC2H 8NJ. I also direct that the receipt of the Charity Director or, duly authorised officer within The Make A Difference Trust, shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said legacy.”

Thank you for considering this request and for the support any help Will give to those who need it. Please do however be aware, the above does not constitute legal advice and should only be considered as our guidance. You should always contact a solicitor or legal professional before making or updating your Will.
