Helderberg Street Peoples Centre: Point of Difference
Visit them online

Summary: The Trust continues to be proud to pro-actively work with the Helderberg Street Peoples Centre in Helderberg: South Africa to deliver a series of important programs not just aimed at orphan care, feeding and clothing stations, but also at development, employment and income generation programming.

The Trust supports the day-care centre which is a place where people can go when they are too ill to work, and where they are cared for and provided with a meal.

The centre further supports issues such as bathing and washing facilities, under supervision, for those who are sick (many people only have access to a communal tap to meet their water needs). Also a meeting place where those who are infected or affected with HIV are supported, where the local clinic and peer educators provide quality and well delivered information and counselling.

Most recently, the launch of a bakery, where bread-making skills are taught and where bread is made to meet the needs of the soup kitchen and a life-skills training project where classes on a variety of subjects, including child-care, hygiene, home kitchen gardening, basic reading and writing skills can be delivered.
